Placer County Constable Charles Henry Carter was killed in an automobile accident while pursuing burglary suspects on April 15, 1956.
He was pursuing two juvenile burglary suspects who had just committed a residential burglary near Hidden Valley off Auburn-Folsom Road in Loomis. While in pursuit on Cavitt-Stallman Road, he lost control of his vehicle and crashed west of Barton Road. The suspect’s car crashed through a fence about ½ mile further down and the suspects fled on foot. Carter died a short time later at Roseville District Hospital. Two Sacramento boys, 15 & 16, were arrested later that month and admitted to the crime.
Charles was survived by his wife and was a veteran of World War I. He was 65 years old. Charles and had been the Constable of Loomis Township for 5 years at the time of his death. He was buried in the Roseville Cemetery.
